Gratitude For Your Parents
Gratitude for your parents is essential to your happiness. My mother was an incredible woman, but I never knew how incredible she was until after she died. People told me what she did for them, how she impacted their lives. What a difference she made.
Sadly, I didn’t know that until after the fact.
I wished I’d have asked her.
I wished I had spent more time with her.
I wished I had the courage to ask her these questions, but I didn’t know.
Please, don’t make the mistake I made, communicate with your father. Communicate with your mother. Ask them questions on how they were brought up. Ask them questions about their lives.
What I did with my dad, I made a book, a biography for him.
I video recorded him so I could see his face. His face lights up when he talks about the past. When he starts talking about one subject, he’d remember something else and you’d see his face change. I recorded that, for myself and for my children that we could carry the essence of that connection, that love, that history.
This is what communication is.
You need to know what is going on in other people’s lives. It’s important, it’s vital. It’s not difficult to do that. Just ask simple questions. “Hey dad, what was it like growing up? Dad what did you use to do when you were a kid? Really? I didn’t know that about you.”
Watch his face.
Watch your mum’s face when you ask questions like that.
They’ll light up, because no matter what happens your parents are totally responsible for you being on this planet, without them you wouldn’t be here, so you have to have gratitude for your parents.
By having gratitude for your parents will make a difference to your life immediately.
